universalcomicbooklover asked: The more I see some comic fans not welcoming to change, the more that I see that things in comics will always revert back to being static (since they're the loudest). If a new character is placed in an existing mantle, some folks will rage. If you create a new character with similar powers, but a different moniker, not many will care, it's a double edged sword. Every source of entertainment has fickle fans, but when people preach change, yet complain about change, then it becomes mind-boggling.

Answer:

xcyclopswasrightx:

They are not going to change because they are corporate brands. Just like Mickey Mouse. More so now that DC and Marvel are owned by Warner Brothers and Disney. They have a formula that works, and vested interest in keeping these character forever green for each successive generation.

Mainstream comics are a machine that will continually pump out stories from now until the end of time as long as profit permits. There is a lot I love about these characters and their worlds, but this never ending cycle is the nature of the beast

But they are not the totality of comics, nor do they have to be the driving force of the industry. Support the Independent press. There are books out there that offer a begging, middle, and end. Look to creator own books, where one person, or a team have a singular vision of their characters, and plan to develop that story over the course of years, and decades.

Along with the Marvel books I read, I also follow small press books. Here are a few.

Brian K Vaughn & Marcos Martin’s
The Private Eye

image

A story set in the future, where everybody where masks, and individual identities are closely held secrets.

Keiron Gillen & Jamie McKelvie’s
The Wicked & The Divine.
12 immortal gods who incarnate every 90 years. They live for 2 years, and are worshiped by the masses before they die again, waiting for their time to return. They are not world’s greatest pop stars.

image

Bendis & Maleev’s
Scarlet
The tale of a regular girl from Portland, who is going to start a revolution (at least that is what I hope)

Brian K Vaughn & Fiona Staples
Saga
2 people madly in love, and from different sides of the tracks, fight against all odds to keep their family together. Romance, comedy, tragedy, science fiction, and fantasy. You will laugh, and cry.

Who are your favorite comic creators? See if they are producing anything on their own, outside of the Big 2. You will be glad you did.

Guys, I don’t want to cry “cherik” here… but I was just reading Astonishing X-Men #46 and saw this.

Right?

This picture is awful, so sorry.

But, UPDATE! I met the artist, Mike Mckone, at a con. Of course I asked him about this. He had no recollection of consciously drawing it, but admitted the *ahem* uncanny resemblance. So this happened…

yo everybody though, let’s just stop a minute here okay

let’s have a look at the resemblance here

starting with erik

this is fassy himself (squished slighly?? sorry idk why it did that it looks wrong now)

bonus: sunglasses erik featuring sideburns just like picture—

yo okay now let’s see charles

and james:

do i need to write an evaluation of their similarities or can we all just appreciate simply by seeing

omg this is amazing…
